There were 123 racial motivated hate crimes in Columbus last year, which is the highest number among all places in America. At the same time the city’s segregation index is estimated at -1.8. Columbus is a home to 233,320 African Americans who account for 27.5% of total population. Majority of black residents live in the inner parts of the city. Their median household income is some 40% lower than the income of white families while the black poverty rate is 31.8%.
