3. The Democratic Republic of Congo
Out of more than 200 African ethnic groups, the majority are Bantu – the four largest tribes – Mongo, Luba, Kongo (all Bantu), and the Mangbetu-Azande (Hamitic) make up about 45% of the population. It has 212 mother tongues, while the most common ones are Kikongo in the southwest, Lingala in the northwest, Tshiluba in the central part of country and Swahili in the east.
