Oncologists rank 11th in our list of the best paying medical specialties in America. An oncologist deals with the most dreaded disease of them all, namely cancer. Specifically, an oncologist aims to further the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer. Since cancer isn’t a specific disease distinct to a specific region, oncologists specialize in different types of cancers and meet at conferences to join efforts to fight the disease. Every patient’s situation is unique, thus, oncologists need to treat every new case differently and come up with a solution that will help them achieve their aim while minimizing the suffering of the patient as well. After all, it can be argued that there is little point to increasing the lifespan of a person if they have to spend it in excruciating pain.
Due to the consistent discoveries regarding cancer, its treatment is continually changing which is why oncologists are required to be aware of the most recent developments in order to properly treat their patients.
