The building was originally a place of worship, but during the 1860s it became a theater. However, a rather infamous incident makes the theater historically significant, as this is the place where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Not everything in history is glorious and chivalrous, and some historical events are dark and dreadful. But that does not mean we cannot learn anything from them. When you are visiting Washington D.C., you should definitely take the time to visit the theater and see the very site where Mr. Lincoln was assassinated.
