Puducherry or popularly known as Pondicherry is a union territory in southern India. It has a strong French influence as it remained a French colony until it was merged with independent India in 1954 (though officially it became part of India only in 1962). According to a survey published in 2013 by IndiaToday, University of Puducherry was ranked among the top 10 universities in India. Puducherry has a very high number of postgraduates and very high number of PhDs per million.
