Global Trade Statistics 2023: The G20

Trade in merchandise decreased for several quarters for G20 countries as per OECD before hitting a plateau in Q4 2023. It was also reported that export growth had stagnated in the US. The automobile exports saw a decline, but it was offset by higher exports in industrial supplies.

On the other hand, merchandise trade growth remained robust in the east. China showed a 0.6% increase in exports, with one of the strong reasons being its sales of consumer electronics. On the imports’ end, China recorded a 3.9% YoY increase. Exports increased in Japan and surged in South Korea due to strong automobile sales and a recovery of the Korean semiconductor business. As far as Australia, Indonesia and Brazil go, the growth in exports came from high sales in commodities.

Developed economies are mostly service-oriented and in that respect, the OECD reported that services sector in G20 countries was relatively better off, recording a growth in exports of 1.6% in Q4, 2023.

Although the exact percentage of international sales contributing to total revenue is not specified, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s global presence and extensive cross-border e-commerce operations undoubtedly contribute to the country’s trade balance.

The company’s expertise in freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and supply chain optimization helps businesses navigate the complexities of international trade and streamline their logistics operations.
