He is an atheist who wears only brown clothes, openly gay and vegan since 1983. Also, Stephen is suffering from a hearing condition called hyperacusis. Every sound louder than normal that Stephen hears is giving feedback to his left ear at increasingly louder volumes which is the reason why he is covering it while the audience applauds and why he wears earplugs.
