Okeechobee Hurricane is an oldie, from the times when hurricanes weren’t given special names, so it is also known as San Felipe II or the Storm of ’28. The papers from the time report the lake had turned into a sea. Thousands of people lost their homes, and the insurance probably wasn’t as good as it is nowadays.
