Once again, you are the only hero out there. It’s up to your boss whether you will help your unfortunate cousin or let him wait in the middle of nowhere. Here’s the tip. Use (or learn) your diplomatic skills to make the whole situation believable. The way your voice sounds (should be concerned and worried), plays the most important role. Get that troubled voice and give it a try!
