In this article, we discuss 13 best 5G stocks to buy now.
5G players are experiencing remarkable success all over the world amid strong growth catalysts. In January 2023, Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK) exceeded its expected operating profit for the latest quarter and predicted increased sales in 2023. The Finnish telecommunications giant stated that it was able to increase its market share by taking advantage of the 5G deployment in nations like India. In addition, Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK) was able to broaden its range of customers beyond network service providers to industrial clients who established their own private 5G networks at locations such as power plants, utilities, and mines, among other places. However, Ericsson announced lower than anticipated core earnings for the fourth quarter and predicted a continued decline in margins in its Networks division during the first half of 2023. The company attributed this to weak sales of 5G equipment in markets such as the United States.
Moreover, AWS, the provider of computing and data storage services owned by Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), has partnered with phone companies such as T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) and Deutsche Telekom AG to offer exclusive wireless services to businesses. The company aims to promote advanced wireless networks as an alternative to Wi-Fi in office and work environments, and has teamed up with other partners including KDDI Corp. in Japan, Orange SA in France, and Telefonica SA in Spain. The private network sector is one of AWS’s main areas of focus for expanding its cloud services and boosting revenue, as the business is responsible for most of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s profits, although sales growth slowed down last year. According to Jan Hofmeyr, an executive at AWS, the faster 5G wireless networks can now provide companies with improved in-house connectivity. Although Wi-Fi is adequate for current uses, it has certain limitations that can be overcome with 5G’s precise location, low latency, and increased bandwidth, which are particularly useful for advanced applications such as autonomous robots in manufacturing.
In our last year’s article on 5G stocks, we cited Allied Market Research, which claimed that the global market for 5G technology was valued at $5.3 billion in 2020, and it is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 65.8% from 2021 to 2030, reaching a total value of $797.7 billion by 2030. Similarly, Precedence Research stated that the global market for 5G IoT will be worth around $297.1 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 70.04% between 2022 and 2030. The market growth is primarily being driven by several factors, including the increasing need for fast internet, the continuous improvements in 5G technology, the surge of remote work, and the expansion of 5G network coverage.
Companies specializing in cloud computing, edge computing, telecommunications, and semiconductors are leading players in the 5G sector. Some of the best 5G stocks to invest in include Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD), Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Best 5G Stocks To Buy Now
13. Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 43
Skyworks Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS) designs, develops, manufactures, and markets proprietary semiconductor products. The company provides its products for the usage in aerospace, automotive, broadband, cellular infrastructure, connected home, entertainment and gaming, industrial, medical, military, smartphone, tablet, and wearable markets. KeyBanc Capital Markets predicts that Skyworks Solutions will experience a robust recovery in the second half of the year due to the global economy’s unstable yet expanding state and the upcoming release of new smartphone models.
On March 16, Susquehanna analyst Christopher Rolland upgraded Skyworks Solutions, Inc. to Positive from Neutral with a price target of $135, up from $110. In April 2021, Susquehanna predicted that the semiconductor cycle had peaked, but the firm now believes that the bottom has been reached for consumer, PC, and handset-related names. As 2023 is expected to be a weaker year for Apple’s sell-through, Susquehanna sees Skyworks Solutions, Inc. shifting its focus to capture more premium Android customers. Additionally, the firm believes that Skyworks Solutions, Inc., with its expertise in RF integration, has numerous opportunities to add value to its products.
According to Insider Monkey’s Q4 data, 43 hedge funds were bullish on Skyworks Solutions, Inc., compared to 39 funds in the prior quarter. D E Shaw held the largest stake in the company, consisting of 1.14 million shares worth $104.2 million.
Like Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Alphabet Inc., and Microsoft Corporation, Skyworks Solutions, Inc. is one of the best 5G stocks to invest in.
Here is what Heartland Advisors specifically said about Skyworks Solutions, Inc. in its Q3 2022 investor letter:
“Before the risk-on rebound early in the quarter, we were searching for opportunities to shift from our defensive stance, looking for beaten-down, high-quality “early cycle” leaders. Existing holding, Skyworks Solutions, Inc., represents one such opportunity that was added to on weakness.
Skyworks is one of two leading providers of radio frequency system components to smartphone makers and electronics manufacturers. With every step-up in product complexity, over the past two decades, the competitive landscape has shrunk while gross margins have increased significantly. 5G represents another such step-up, which is likely to increase how much Skyworks can make per smartphone.
Apple is a big customer, accounting for more than half of Skyworks’ sales. That customer concentration has depressed Skyworks’ valuation over time. More recently, fears surrounding a global recession and risk to consumer demand have further pressured valuation. However, the handset business is expected to benefit from 5G content, which may help offset some macroeconomic pressures. Away from the handset business, Skyworks’ growth is expected to accelerate thanks to other secular drivers such as WIFI 6 and growth of the industrial internet (i.e., “Internet of Things”).
At a P/E of less than eight and a 2.3% dividend yield, SWKS rarely gets this cheap, making this high-quality stock compelling for longterm investors.”

On January 26, Gregory Williams, an analyst at Cowen, increased the firm’s price target on AT&T Inc. to $25 from $24 and maintained a Market Perform rating on the shares. According to Insider Monkey’s fourth quarter database, 56 hedge funds were long Verizon Communications Inc., compared to 62 funds in the prior quarter. Ric Dillon’s Diamond Hill Capital is a significant position holder in the company, with 6.7 million shares worth $267 million.

“There are a few other segments of our portfolios that displayed weakness in the quarter. Cable and telecommunication companies have been an area that has lagged the broader market as their worlds are increasingly colliding. According to the analyst, the company’s softer guidance was due to continued weakness in the storage business, which has impacted both the data center segment and the delay in custom cloud wins. However, the analyst believes that the worst has passed for the stock.
According to Insider Monkey’s fourth quarter database, 58 hedge funds were bullish on Marvell Technology, Inc., and Ken Griffin’s Citadel Investment Group held a significant position in the company, with 4.2 million shares worth $158.2 million.

“Marvell Technology, Inc. provides infrastructure semiconductor solutions. Investors are concerned about the semiconductor cycle and how demand for Marvell’s products will fare in a slowing economic environment. We remain confident that the company’s portfolio of products is highly important in parts of the datacenter server market and note that the company recently has secured strong wins with large technology companies to use its products. The company also benefits from 5G wireless infrastructure build-outs that remain on pace and are generally insulated from macroeconomic pressures. With supply chain issues easing, we believe Marvell remains in a strong position to post healthy growth in 2023.”

“A third approach to return generation is purchasing idiosyncratic businesses that largely control their own destiny. Intel Corporation, which we purchased in the first quarter on the premise that it would develop a leading domestic foundry business, has struggled with execution missteps and product delays. We are maintaining the position to provide ongoing exposure to semiconductors.”
8. Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO)

“Performance was also supported by communications chipmaker Broadcom Inc., which has managed inventory better than peers and continues to generate healthy levels of free cash. Broadcom should benefit from a more balanced revenue mix between semiconductors and software upon the expected closing of its acquisition of VMware (VMW) in 2023.”

“QUALCOMM Incorporated continues to be challenged by headwinds in the smartphone supply chain with an expected decline in units for 2022. Despite solid gains in the Internet of Things and Auto segments, Qualcomm’s dominant business remains the smartphone market. We expect to see stabilization of the smartphone market in 2023, including a recovery in China.”
6. T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 94
T-Mobile US, Inc. provides mobile communications services in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. It is one of the most prominent 5G providers in the US. On March 16, Morgan Stanley analyst Simon Flannery commented on T-Mobile US, Inc.’s announcement of the acquisition of Ka’ena Corporation, which includes Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile, and Plum, for a maximum of $1.35 billion in cash and stock. The analyst stated that the acquisition is logical, but he does not expect it to have a significant impact. T-Mobile is already Ka’ena’s exclusive MVNO partner, so Morgan Stanley expects only a modest financial effect from the deal. Morgan Stanley maintained an Overweight rating on T-Mobile US, Inc. shares with a price target of $175.
According to Insider Monkey’s Q4 data, 94 hedge funds were bullish on T-Mobile US, Inc., compared to 100 funds in the prior quarter. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway is the biggest stakeholder of the company.

In its Q4 2021 investor letter, ClearBridge Investments shared its stance on T-Mobile US, Inc.:
“As mentioned, the communication services sector has come under some pressure, and irrational pricing competition has negatively impacted wireless industry growth and profitability of late, weighing on T-Mobile. Faced with these headwinds, and with pressure from other wireless carriers and cable companies that could cause the company to cede share in subscriber growth in 2022, we exited our position in the fourth quarter.”
5. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 97
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. is a California-based semiconductor company that operates through four segments – Data Center, Client, Gaming, and Embedded. It is one of the premier 5G stocks to monitor. The company’s Q4 revenue of $5.6 billion rose by 16% compared to the same period last year. This growth was mainly due to an increase in revenue in the Embedded and Data Center divisions, although it was partly offset by a decrease in revenue in the Client and Gaming segments.
On March 20, Raymond James analyst Srini Pajjuri raised the firm’s price target on Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. to $115 from $100 and kept a Strong Buy rating on the shares. The reason for this increase is the positive signs of a PC market recovery and the ongoing strength of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.’s FPGA. The firm also believes that the current expectations of -7%/+2% quarter-over-quarter growth in Q1/Q2 for AMD’s Data Center segment are reasonable, and expects the company’s PC revenue to hit its lowest point in Q1.
According to Insider Monkey’s fourth quarter database, 97 hedge funds were bullish on Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., compared to 89 funds in the prior quarter. Ken Griffin’s Citadel Investment Group is a significant position holder in the company, with 6.5 million shares worth $424.7 million.
Baron Opportunity Fund made the following comment about Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. in its Q4 2022 investor letter:
“During the quarter, we added to our position in Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., a global fabless semiconductor company focusing on high performance computing technology, software, and products. AMD designs leading high-performance central and graphics processing units (known as CPUs and GPUs) and integrates them with hardware and software to build differentiated solutions for customers. While the company is seeing weakness in its PC business in the short term, we continue to believe AMD will be one of the lead beneficiaries of growing data center infrastructure spending driven by expanded use cases for AI and cloud computing across its product portfolio. AMD’s largest share gain opportunity is in its data-center-server CPUs, which continue to take share from incumbent Intel given a superior total cost of ownership proposition driven by better performance per watt of energy consumption across many computing workloads. We also believe Xilinx, a recent acquisition, offers AMD diversification opportunities through which it can benefit from the broader proliferation of semiconductors into all aspects of the industrial and consumer economies.”
4. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 106
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was incorporated in 1993 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. The analyst considers NVIDIA Corporation to be the top pick for compute, and highlighted the latest announcements of products and partnerships at the GTC conference. The analyst believes that these developments demonstrate NVIDIA Corporation’s unique AI pipeline and also increase its total addressable market.
According to Insider Monkey’s fourth quarter database, NVIDIA Corporation was part of 106 hedge fund portfolios, compared to 89 in the prior quarter. Matrix Capital Management is a prominent stakeholder of the company, with 5 million shares worth $741.3 million.
ClearBridge Large Cap Growth Strategy made the following comment about NVIDIA Corporation in its Q4 2022 investor letter:
“Promoting diversification and managing risk continue to guide our transaction activity, with a focus on the earnings trajectory of existing and potential holdings leading to our most recent moves. We are directing our research efforts to identifying names that are closer to the bottom than the top in terms of earnings and valuations, adding to our positions in ASML, the leading supplier of high-end production equipment to chip makers, and NVIDIA Corporation, whose valuation has washed out due to weakness in gaming and crypto mining as well as slowing enterprise spending.”
3. Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 152
As a technology holding company, Alphabet Inc. does not directly offer 5G capabilities. However, several of its subsidiaries, such as Google and X, are involved in research and development related to 5G technology. Google has partnered with various mobile carriers to offer 5G services on its Google Fi network, while X is working on developing new wireless technologies that could potentially surpass the capabilities of 5G. It is one of the best 5G stocks to invest in.
On March 20, Mark Kelley, an analyst at Stifel, initiated coverage of Alphabet Inc. by assigning it a Buy rating and a $130 price target. The analyst observed that early demos of Microsoft’s Bing via OpenAI have been impressive, whereas Google’s demos have not been as successful. However, the analyst believes that this will not cause a significant shift in consumer behavior or affect search ad spending. Stifel estimates that the increasing focus on AI-based searches by Google may impact margins to some extent. The firm anticipates that Google will take proactive measures to address regulatory concerns before a resolution to the DOJ case is reached. Stifel also views YouTube and YouTube TV as significant opportunities for Google.
According to Insider Monkey’s fourth quarter database, 152 hedge funds were bullish on Alphabet Inc., compared to 156 funds in the prior quarter. Chris Hohn’s TCI Fund Management is the biggest stakeholder of the company, with 54.5 million shares worth $4.8 billion.
Weitz Partners III Opportunity Fund made the following comment about Alphabet Inc. in its Q4 2022 investor letter:
“Unfortunately, the performance story of the year is told by the Fund’s detractors. Now, weakening ad spending across all channels has added insult to injury, and concerns have spread to the other dominant digital ad player, Alphabet Inc. — parent of Google and YouTube.
Meta, Alphabet, Amazon and CarMax were all top detractors for the quarter and calendar year periods (FIS and Liberty Broadband, respectively, complete the quarterly and calendar-year detractor lists.) To varying degrees, each is managing through cyclical challenges during a period of substantial investor pessimism. Drawdowns of this magnitude are painful, and it may be prudent for management to moderate the pace of some investments, but we remain encouraged by their long-term focus. In the short run, cutting spending indiscriminately to “defend earnings” may lessen the pain of a drawdown, but it seldom grows a company’s business value — the ultimate prize.”
2. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 240
Amazon.com, Inc. has been investing in 5G technology, particularly for its cloud computing business. In December 2020, the company launched AWS Wavelength, a service that allows developers to build applications that can take advantage of 5G networks. This service is designed to provide low-latency connectivity between AWS compute and storage services and 5G devices. Amazon.com, Inc. is one of the best 5G plays to consider.
On March 21, Citi analyst Ronald Josey reiterated a Buy rating on Amazon.com, Inc. with a $145 price target. The company has announced its intention to cut 9,000 more positions, making it a total of 27,000 positions eliminated since November. This represents 8% of Amazon.com, Inc.’s corporate headcount. The restructuring at Amazon Web Services indicates a possible decline in demand. However, it also helps to stabilize margins, which supports the idea of Amazon becoming more profitable, especially in the North American Retail sector, the analyst wrote in a research note.
According to Insider Monkey’s fourth quarter database, 240 hedge funds were bullish on Amazon.com, Inc., compared to 269 funds in the prior quarter. Harris Associates is a prominent stakeholder of the company, with 19.3 million shares worth $1.6 billion.
Artisan Global Opportunities Fund made the following comment about Amazon.com, Inc. in its Q4 2022 investor letter:
“Amazon.com, Inc. is the world’s largest retailer. The company has gone through a period of massive investment as it doubled its fulfillment network and hired over 800,000 people to meet growing demand over the past few years. Capital expenditure (capex) in the 2017 to 2019 period was $10 billion – $17 billion per year before ramping up to $40 billion in 2020, $61 billion in 2021 and is expected to end 2022 at another $61 billion. We believe the company is in the later innings of this capex cycle and will be transitioning toward a period of harvesting those investments through higher margins and free cash flow generation. At a valuation that appears to be discounting a deteriorating environment for consumer spending, we decided to start a GardenSM position.”
1. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)
Number of Hedge Fund Holders: 259
In terms of 5G, Microsoft Corporation has been focusing on developing cloud-based services and solutions that leverage the capabilities of 5G networks to deliver faster and more reliable connectivity for their customers. The firm stated that Microsoft Corporation introduced Microsoft 365 Copilot last week, which incorporates powerful artificial intelligence technology into the company’s core productivity suite. The rollout of this technology highlights why Evercore ISI believes that Microsoft Corporation will continue to be a leader in AI adoption, particularly in the commercial market. Evercore argued that Microsoft’s ability to embed AI throughout its dominant application franchise and use first-party data to improve productivity for users is a unique advantage.
According to Insider Monkey’s Q4 data, 259 hedge funds were long Microsoft Corporation, compared to 269 funds in the earlier quarter. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust is the biggest stakeholder of the company, with 39.2 million shares worth $9.4 billion.
Ariel Global Strategy made the following comment about Microsoft Corporation in its Q4 2022 investor letter:
“Enterprise software provider Microsoft Corporation also traded lower, as higher interest rates and economic concerns have created headwinds for growth-oriented technology companies. We believe this price action runs counter to Microsoft’s solid fundamentals, competitive positioning and long-term business outlook. We continue to anchor on the company driving value creation by capitalizing on a broad and deep set of opportunities, most notably within hybrid cloud infrastructure. The platform continues to demonstrate share gains and strong multi-year purchase intent as enterprises transition to cloud based platforms. At current trading levels, we believe Microsoft’s risk/reward is skewed to the upside.”
