We are halfway through our list of best places to visit in Central and South America in April, and at number 5, we have Arequipa. It is the colonial era capital of Peru, and famous for baroque buildings constructed from sillar (a form of volcanic rock), its massive yet elegant and stately main square and a neoclassical Basilica Cathedral.
