5. St. Nicholas Church
Location: Hamburg, Germany
Height: 147 m (482 ft)
Completion year: 1874
This construction of St. Nicholas Church that ranks 5th in our list of tallest cathedrals in the world began in the year 1189. However, several renovations and improvements were made during the next couple of centuries, basically, the entire structure was rebuilt that added height to it. After the completion of the cathedral, it became the tallest building in the world, not just the tallest cathedral. However, this was for a brief period. Unfortunately, during the Second World War, the cathedral was hit several times during bombing raids by the allies, and today only the tower is left standing.
