11. Welsh
Points – 4
Wales is a country that’s part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain. It’s right in between England and the Irish Sea. The language that some 3 million residents speak is Welsh and it’s one of the Celtic languages spoken natively in the area.
Even so, it’s beginning to look like it’s a disappearing language as only about 580,000 people still speak it, according to the 2011 UK Census.
The history of the language sits in the 6th century when it took off from Common Brittonic. Over the ages, it evolved into its current state, slowly declining in popularity as more and more residents picked up British English and stuck with it.
Nowadays, hearing someone talk with a Welsh accent seems to be quite sexy. Hopefully, it will remain so for many years to come, and the number of speakers will increase instead of the other way around.
