I can tell you that paranormal documentaries are really on the rise in recent years. There are lots of interesting topics to cover and people like to watch them. They are one of those guilty pleasures. No one admits they watch them, but everyone does. Literature, movies and TV have multiple takes on all things paranormal, usually in a fanciful manner, which makes the more serious approach that comes with documentaries refreshing. Some of you will say that seriousness is nonexistent in paranormal documentaries, but anything that has some kind of argument to back up its claims, is at least trying to be thoughtful and offer a different perspective.
Different people consider different things scary. I think snakes are scary, while spiders are just fine (they are great pets). My friend thinks just the opposite. It all comes down to personal perception and experiences. When it comes to the paranormal, I think that really depends on whether you believe in it or not. For people who don’t believe in paranormal phenomena, they won’t consider any paranormal documentary scary. Those that do believe will find every single one scarier than anything featured on our list of the 19 Best Crime Documentaries on Hulu. But, that’s just my guess; you can tell me if I’m wrong.

After singling out the paranormal documentaries that have a chance to scare some of you, we ranked them according to their IMDb ratings (which tend to be low for these types of docs; are there that many skeptics out there, or are they really that poorly made?). 11. The Castle Project: Colorado’s Haunted Mansion

We will begin our list with a good old haunted house subject. It tells the story of the renovation project at the Croke-Patterson Mansion located in Denver that went wrong. As the work progressed, workers began to experience paranormal things like whispering voices and apparitions. Some of them even became ill, and the problems didn’t stop there.

In this documentary, filmmaker and paranormal investigator Chad Calek is joined by other paranormal experts in an attempt to solve a mystery in his hometown and explore the roots of the paranormal activity there.
9. Alien Reptilian Legacy

This documentary tries to make the case for the existence of Reptilians, ancient aliens, and beings from the shadows who are controlling mankind and plotting a war against the human race. If this scenario isn’t terrifying, I don’t know what is; of course whether it’s actually true is another matter entirely, and evidence is lacking.

Ancient Alien Origins is based on the premise that all religions have their roots in an alien invasion that happened thousands of years ago. According to the documentary, these aliens were ancient gods who gave powers to the rulers of ancient civilizations and were supposed to be a guide to the progress of humans.
7. My Amityville Horror

This documentary ranks 7th in our list of best scary paranormal documentaries on Hulu. It revolves around the paranormal activity experienced by the Lutz family, told by a member of the family, Daniel Lutz. The family moved into a house in Amityville, New York where a murder had taken place a year prior. After a month of living in the house, the Lutz family moved out, claiming the house was haunted. The incident spawned a novel and movie series called The Amityville Horror.

If you like horror movies then you will love this documentary. Four paranormal investigators take famous horror movies likes Silent Hill and Poltergeist and investigate the true stories that were used as inspiration for those movies. The documentary features scene recreations of the events along with interviews of eyewitnesses.

Another documentary on our list of the best scary paranormal documentaries on Hulu that talks about control of humankind by aliens. This documentary focuses on the United States and tries to uncover the conspiracy behind the power elite.
4. Real Fear 2: The Truth Behind More Movies
IMDb rating: 6.0
For those who liked the first documentary, this sequel brings more of the same. This time, the original team of investigators is joined by multiple guest stars and paranormal experts, who help them solve the mysteries behind the true stories that inspired some of the scariest horror movies in history.
