Despite massive reserves of crude oil, political instability, violence and corruption have seen Chad being consistently ranked among the poorest nations in the world. Most of the population lives in poverty, with some estimates stating that over 80% of the population lives below the poverty line. Due to the coups that have taken places in the country, foreign investors are still hesitant to invest in the country.
