5. Uber

Uber was the idea of Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, who thought of starting a ride-sharing service after facing a lot of trouble in getting a taxi on a chilly night back in the frigid, pre-global warming December 2008. Uber was the first-ever ride-sharing service which revolutionized the way we commute. According to Goldman Sachs, the ride-hailing industry market will reach $285 billion by 2030. In August 2016, Uber launched a program in Pittsburgh through which users could hail a self-driving car from their smartphones. Last December, the company also started using self-driving Volvo XC90 SUVs for ride-hailing in San Francisco, though the program was later stopped by State authorities. In 2014, Uber launched UberCHOPPER in New York City, a helicopter ride service. The company also has a profitable food delivery app known as “UberEATS”.
