Discovering new cities is the best way to learn about the world we live in, and for that purpose, we arranged a list of the 11 most expensive cities to visit in Asia in 2015; for all of you who don’t care about the price when it comes to pleasure.
Traveling can be the best way to experience the world, and there are many exotic places and cities to visit. There isn’t anything in the world that can substitute the feeling of being surrounded by new people and learn about different cultures. Just putting yourself in unknown territories, away from the monotony of everyday life, will expand your views and provide you the satisfaction to remember for a lifetime. For example; try to remember the last time you had lunch with your friends? Maybe it was few weeks ago, or months, you can’t really be sure. But, if you had lunch in one of the Parisian bistros, there is no way that you will forget that experience, even years after. Should we even mention the Great Wall of China and the magnificent history behind its construction? If you stood there on those ancient stones, that day would certainly be remembered for rest of your life. Those sorts of memories become an essential part of our character, firmly strengthening the foundations of our being, making us a wiser and much happier person.
The whole world can be our playground, and different corners of the globe have their beauties. If Asia isn’t your cup of tea, the most expensive cities to visit in South America in 2015 were previously listed to help you discover that part of the world.
For our today’s subject, we considered several sources from the Web to arrange the list correctly.
Asia is developing fast, and there are many big cities with high prices, so we needed the most relevant data available. We had to combine different reports to create our list, and the published articles by Mercer, Expatistan, and ECA International were a perfect starting point for our research. It is always better to combine more sources so that we can be more precise. On the published references, some cities were mentioned, and some weren’t, so we’ve combined those rankings (their average value), and then used the overall consumer price index, provided by Numbeo, to come up with the final ranking.
Now, let’s see the 11 most expensive cities to visit in Asia in 2015, and if you decide to visit one of the cities from the list- we wish you the best time of your life.
11. Beijing, China
The capital of China, Bejing is one of the biggest cities in all Asia. From 2014 to 2015, Beijing went up four places and stopped at No.7 of the Mercer list. Considering the ECA, Beijing is ranked No.9 on their list, and when it comes to the overall price index of 50.78, we ranked it at the 11th place of the most expensive cities in Asia in 2015.
10. Shanghai, China
Shanghai is China’s largest city, with 24 million inhabitants. Mercer positioned Shanghai at number six, a jump of four places since 2014. ECA decided that Shanghai deserves to be number 8, and Numbeo’s overall price index of 59.33 puts this huge city at the 10th place of our list.
9. Tel Aviv, Israel
Overall consumer price index of Tel Aviv is 81.17, which is pretty high. Tel Aviv is one of the largest cities in Israel, next to Jerusalem. You may consider visiting Jerusalem first for its history, but Tel Aviv also has a rich offer, and you will definitely enjoy it. ECA hasn’t mentioned Tel Aviv, but Mercer placed it at No.18 on its list.
8. Doha, Qatar
Doha is the capital of Qatar with around a million residents in the metropolitan area. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and a high overall price index of 69.75 proves that fact. Mercer and ECA didn’t mention Doha on their lists, but considering the data from Numbeo we can rank it No.8 of our list.
7. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai is popular all around the world for its luxury hotels and the amazing tower of Burj Khalifa, and if your pockets aren’t deep enough, you most likely won’t be able to afford a prolonged stay. It is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. With the overall price index of 70.24, Dubai reached the seventh place on our list, merely because the ECA and Mercer didn’t include this city in their top expensive cities in Asia.
6. Kuwait City, Kuwait
Kuwait city is situated in Western Asia, and it is the largest city in the state with over 2.1 million residents. Neither Mercer nor ECA spoke about Kuwait City, but the highest overall price index provided by Numbeo, 87.33 ranks it at the sixth place in our list.
5. Seoul, South Korea
We picked another South Korean city, and with the overall consumer price index of 77.39, Seoul is No.5 on our list of the 11 most expensive cities to visit in Asia in 2015. Seoul had a significant jump from 14th place in 2014, to be ranked at No.8 in Mercers 2015 list. ECA put it at 10th place on their list of the most expensive cities in Asia.
4. Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo is one of the largest cities in both Asia and the world. Tokyo is a city with rich history, which combines old Japanese tradition and the modern era. ECA ranked Tokyo at No.16, and on the Mercers list, Tokyo dropped four places from 2014, being No.11 in 2015. We set Tokyo at the fourth place of our list because of a very high overall price index of 85.18, which is second overall on Numbeo.
3. Busan, South Korea
Busan is the second largest city in South Korea after Seoul, and the population count is 3.6 million. ECA results place this South Korean city at the 15th place on their list, but unfortunately, Mercer doesn’t speak of it in its report. With the overall price index of 81.75, Busan is No.3 on our list.
2. Singapore City, Singapore
Singapore is unique in the world, for being the only island state-city on the planet. It has many other names such as the Lion City, the Garden City, and the Red Dot. This city is very expensive with an overall price index of 83.41, and Mercer placed it at 4th place. ECA disagrees and ranks Singapore No.19 of their list – still it is worth enough to earn the second place today.
1. Hong Kong, China
We finally reached the end, and now it’s time to name the No.1 of our list of the 11 most expensive cities to visit in Asia in 2015. Hong Kong is immensely expensive according to the data collected from Numbeo. An overall price index of 81.69 puts Hong Kong on the top of our list. In 2014, it was ranked No.3 by the Mercer, and in 2015 Hong Kong jumped one place up to be #2 on their list, alongside the same ranking by ECA.
