4. Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is a quasi-military style charity based in London. The organization has over 1.5 million members worldwide, who are often known as Salvationists. The charity was founded in 1865 by a preacher named William Booth. The Salvation Army provides social aid, food and shelter for millions of poor people across the world. It received $1.9 billion in private donations in 2016.
