The American Board of Radiology handles the certification of radiologists. To become a certified radiologist in the United States, one must complete the first four years of medical school with top grades and then take the United States Medical Licensing Examinations. When applying for training programs, candidates must select radiology as their specialty. Then begins the clinical internship, followed by the four year radiology residency. The final step is the one or two year radiology fellowship, in which one learns the important details of their chosen subspecialty, and upon its completion, one becomes a fully qualified radiologist. To compile our list of highest paying states for radiologists, we referred to a specialized portal by ERI Economic Research Institute called Salary Expert, which has been supplying organizations with salary statistics for over two decades. From there we picked up the average annual and average hourly salaries for each state, and ended up with the following list of the highest paying states for radiologists.
