7. Scallion

Scallion, or “scally-onion”, is a vegetable belonging to the Allium family. Not only does it taste like a milder version of onion, allowing it to be used raw in most dishes, it is also believed to be vital in preventing cancer. Like the other plants on our list of the 11 easiest edible plants to grow indoors, growing scallion doesn’t require much effort. Let’s start off with the fact that no seeds or cuttings are needed; all you have to do is tie a couple of these together and place them in a glass with an inch of water. In about a week or so, new shoots will appear, and the roots will have doubled in length, in which case you can transplant them to the pot. For harvesting, snip off the greens, or pull out the entire plant to use the whole vegetable.
