Fast food – both a gift and curse for the 11 countries that consume the most fast food. It’s readily available, it’s mostly utterly delicious and most importantly – very convenient. Fast food is the bane of proper eating and healthy lifestyle. Given that it is predominantly provided by major chains who have been known for their harmful or low-quality products and ingredients, fast food is not exactly what food should be about. However, with more and more people leading lives which barely allow them time to grab a snack, left alone cook for hours at a time, fast food is spreading like a wildfire. You don’t need a table, you don’t need to sit down or even stop going at all. You don’t need to get out of your car and sometimes you don’t even need to make any human-to-human interaction. Fast food goes from your hands to your stomach in the blink of an eye, only to be followed by more in most cases.
However, its high-calorie, strongly unhealthy deliciousness can quickly lead to not only gaining weight but also a more miserable life. Lots of people underestimate just what a great portion of their physical and emotional (you read that right) problems can be ironed out by a good, balanced diet. Fast food has no place in such a diet, but for many of us, the pace of living might not allow us to go through with this plan. And let’s be honest – we all like a fat, juicy burger or a hotdog. They’re delicious and they are made to be delicious on purpose – they sell better that way. While you should in no way ever force yourself to never even think about it, fast food consumption should be reduced to a minimum so you don’t get to suffer from any side effects different than the horrible noises your stomach could make.
Even so, you shouldn’t get it wrong – eating fast food won’t make your arms fall off and grind your life to a slow, painful death. Take a look at the list of the 10 fattest countries in the world and see for yourself how most of them don’t match the countries on this list. As long as you do more good than harm to yourself, you should be good to go.
11. Sweden
Apparently, Swedish people like to make use of the government’s decision to reduce the tax fees for food serving businesses. The leader of their fast food market is McDonald’s, unsurprisingly.
10. Switzerland
Our tenth spot belongs to Switzerland, which is already being warned about rising obesity levels. McDonald’s reigns over the land of fast food there too.
9. Germany
Germany has some of its own, original fast food which is served only there. Big chains in the country are already focusing on researching and producing more healthy alternatives to the likes of Burger King and McDonald’s.
8. Austria
Austria has the eighth highest consumption of fast food in the world. However, it is an example of how fast food should be. The food offered there is often far healthier and generally better put than its alternatives.
7. Japan
Japan is another place where fast food doesn’t necessarily mean junk food. Their newer craze – bento boxes – is a type of takeaway food which is made by arranging food items into images of various sorts.
6. South Korea
South Korea has seen some major changes in the past decade. Along with their never ending coffee craze, South Koreans seem to have a thing going on with fast food too.
5. Australia
Australia takes the fifth spot on our list of the 11 countries that consume the most fast food with the average Australian gnawing on junk food items at least once a week for at least one meal of the day.
4. United Kingdom
The UK has been having a bit of a problem with its alarmingly increasing obesity rates. The land of fish and chips is trying hard to make its residents choose a healthier alternative to no avail so far.
3. Canada
Canada’s home brand, Tim Horton’s is the leader in the third most fast food eating country in the world. Canada’s other chains include Burger King, KFC and McDonalds who hold a smaller share of the market.
2. France
France seems to be abandoning its fine dining facade with people working more and having less time to eat. In the past decade, the country has picked up so much on fast food eating that it became second from being one of the less consuming.
1. United States
The not-so-winning country in this list of the 11 countries that consume the most fast food is the USA. Fast food literally originates from the USA, and so do all the major worldwide franchises. However, this has not been a good influence on the nation as it is also the fattest in the world.
