Just like social workers, special education teachers are necessary for improving the lives of thousands of children who would otherwise lead extremely limited lives, something which is appreciated by the 11 cities with the highest demand for special education teachers.
We all know that children are sensitive and that they require constant attention and a good teaching approach. But, when it comes to children with special needs, requirements are a little different. They are even more sensitive, hence, they require an appropriately skilled teacher. It is hard to teach children with special needs, and to be able to undertake that kind of commitment requires extensive training. Special education teachers have to possess many skills, and not only the ability to control children but also the ability to help them overcome any problem that they may face. In addition to practical skills, special education teachers need to be patient, endearing and encouraging in order to motivate their students.
Considering the services provided by special education teachers, you would expect any form of remuneration to be insufficient. Unfortunately, when it comes to salaries, special ed teachers are not even slightly rewarded. In fact, they earn much lower salaries when compared even with occupational therapists, as is evident in cities with the highest demand for occupational therapists.
Despite special education teachers being underpaid, people still appreciate the necessity of that job which is why there are over 375,000 such teachers in just 345 cities which we used for our rankings. Some of these cities appreciate special education teachers more than others do, and we sought to determine the 11 cities with the highest demand for special education teachers.
In order to do this, we used the US Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine the cities which pay the highest salaries to special education teachers, as an occupation which is high in demand offers a greater salary as compared to professions which aren’t as popular. Furthermore, we also determined the cities which had the most jobs for special education teachers as high demand leads to more jobs being available.
