While it seems like the most boring job in the world, accountants are among most important figures behind the efficient operations of almost any businesses, 11 cities with the highest demand for accountants.
Accountants are responsible for financial statement analysis, or, in other words, ensuring that the presented financial information is correct, calculations, audits, giving financial advice, etc. In most cases, accountants are hired by audit firms, with the Big Four audit firms, comprising of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, Ernst & Young and KPMG, hiring nearly 800,000 people in total. These firms tend to provide a range of accounting and auditing services, which have necessitated the hiring of such a large number of accountants.

While licensed or qualified accountants are known as Chartered Accountants in countries such as India, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom, in the United States, accountants who have obtained their licenses are known as Certified Public Accountants. On the other hand, titles for accountants who have not obtained their licenses include Certified Management Accountants and Certified Internal Auditors.
The United States is home to over a million accountants, which in turn demonstrates the high level of demand for the profession, several times greater than other professions such as dental hygienists as seen in the 11 cities with the highest demand for dental hygienists.
However, since there is a large number of accountants in the country, the salaries are extremely competitive too, which is why it is hard to find a place that pays exceptionally well to accountants. For example, the city with the highest salary for accountants still pays $15,000 less than the city with the highest salary for dental hygienists.
Of course, a salary isn’t the only way to assess demand. While determining the 11 cities with the highest demand for accountants, we considered salaries as one of the factors determining demand as a higher salary indicates that the city has a higher demand for accountants. We also considered the number of jobs in the city for an accountant as more jobs means that the city desires accountants more than the others. We used the US Bureau of Labor Statistics to gather the relevant data.
