The evolution of golf dates back to 100 BC when Romans played a game called “Paganica” in which they would hit a leather ball with an angled stick. However, the game itself was originated in Scotland back in the 15th century. Several acts were passed in the Parliament of Scotland against Golf and football as the two sports were considered a major distraction for people while learning archery. Back then archery practice was mandatory in Scotland to prepare people for the Defence of the country. The King Of Scotland, James II was the first person to pass the act against the sport in 1457. However, in 1500 the ban was lifted.

10. Deutsche Bank Championship.
The tournament is held from 31st of August to 3rd of September every year in Massachusetts’s TPC Boston. The total price money of the tournament is $8 million with the winner’s share of $1.44 million.
9. Tour Championship.
Tour championship takes place in Atlanta, Georgia every year from 20th to 23rd of September. The East Lake GC brings together some of the best golfers in the world to compete for a prize money worth over $1.45 million. The tournament was won by Bill Haas last year.
8. US Open.
US Open is held from 14th to 17th of June in the beautiful Olympic Club of San Francisco, California. The winner of the tournament is awarded with around $1.5 million.
7. The Masters.
The tournament is conducted in Georgia’s Augusta National GC from 5th to 8th April every year. The total purse of the tournament is $8 million with the winner’s prize money of just over $1.5 million.
6. The Open Championship.
Held in Lancashire, England, The Open Championship is ranked 6th in the list of 11 Biggest Golf Tournaments in the World. The tournament total prize money is $8 million with the winner’s share of $1.55 million.
5. The PGA Championship.
The PGA Championship takes place in Kiawah Island, South Carolina every year from 9th to 12th August. The tournament is played in the beautiful “Ocean Course” and has the same prize money as The Open Championship.
4. WGC—Cadillac Championship.
Miami, Florida hosts one of the most prestigious golf tournaments of the world from March 8th to 11th. The total prize money of the tournament is $8.5 million with the winner’s share of about $1.6 million. Last year’s final was won by Justin Rose when he beat Bubba Watson.
3. WGC—Accenture Match Play Championship.
The championship was won by American Hunter Mahan last year when he knocked off of Rory Mcllroy who was the world number one. The tournament is held every year with a total purse of $8.5 million.
2. WGC—Bridgestone Invitational.
Held every year from 2nd to 5th August in the beautiful Firestone CC (South Course), Bridgestone Invitational is one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world. Winner of the tournament is rewarded with $1.65 million.
