11 Biggest Dinosaurs: One Just Discovered Recently

We gather the largest among ancient beasts in this list of the 11 biggest dinosaurs: one just discovered recently. If people could roughly map out the entire history of earth on a roll of tissue paper, humans would’ve been on the last piece – smallest piece. This goes to show how little time we’ve actually existed on this planet. Though records before written human history have been generally a blur, whether we’ve existed during the time of dinosaurs remains a hot topic for debate. There’s one thing though that we can be sure of – dinosaurs were the biggest creatures that have ever walked on this planet.

There are many possible answers to question – why dinosaurs no longer exist today. Many would say that the earth was very different back then in terms of environment and structure. The main reason that dinosaurs did not survive until today is the fact that they failed to adapt after adaptation had become necessary. One of the main theories for their extinction was that a major cataclysmic event changed the environment of the earth rapidly. This caused dinosaurs to slowly disappear. Interestingly, there have been discoveries of actual human tools and biological prints that seem to date back to around the time the dinosaurs existed. These are mysteries of the past that still remain with us today.

But for this list we’ll tackle the biggest dinosaurs that have ever existed. Thankfully, most of these large dinosaurs we’re actually herbivores. If you’re looking for a list that’s a little more relevant to the times, check out The 11 Most Dangerous Animals in the World.

Let’s head to the first on this list:

11. Spinosaurus

The Spinosaurus has been fully brought to our attention in the last decade or so. The first Spinosaurus fossil was discovered in Egypt during the 1910s. The World War however, destroyed a lot of specimens and research on the creature. The Spinosaurus is considered to be a specialized carnivorous dinosaur. It even has the capability to swim and hunt prey in the water.

10. Diplodocus

All of the dinosaurs that remain on this list are herbivores. Scientists have discovered that the largest dinosaurs to have ever lived on Earth were mostly long necked, plant eating creatures. The Diplodocus is one of such dinosaurs. The estimated mass of this creature is 16-17 tons.

9.  Giraffatitan

This giraffe patterned dinosaur had an estimated mass of around 37-38 tons. The Giraffatitan was known to have an obsession with eating. They’ve been discovered to eat and eat after every hour or so.

8. Futalognkosaurus

Also known as the Futalognkosaurus dukei, this dinosaur had a mass of around 42 tons. It was even heavier than most military tanks.

7. Elaltitan lilloi

This massive dinosaur was discovered in South America and had an estimated weight of around 47-48 tons. A fully grown adult would barely reach the half of this dinosaur’s leg. They were estimated to be 30 meters long from the top of the head to the end of their tail.

6. Turiasaurus

Discovered in a region between Spain and Portugal, the Turiasaurus would now be known as one of the largest European dinosaurs ever discovered. It has a mass of around 56 tons. It also has a similar structure with most of the herbivores on this list.

We are halfway done with this list of the 11 biggest dinosaurs: one just discovered recently. The remaining dinosaurs on this list can only get bigger. Let’s move ahead to number 5:

5. Brachiosaurus

The Brachiosaurus is one of the most popular of the large dinosaurs. The main reason the Brachiosaurus has gained a significant amount of popularity is because it was one of the first really large dinosaurs to ever be discovered. You’ll even find that this dinosaur is the staple herbivore species to be shown in most dinosaur films and animation. This 62-ton dinosaur was first discovered in 1903.

4. Sauroposeidon

The Sauroposeidon only has rough estimates in its weight and height because scientists have only found incomplete specimens so far. It has become very elusive for us to get any specific measurements or features of this dinosaur. Many believe that this dinosaur could have reached up to 66 tons in mass.

3. Paralititan

Another dinosaur that ranked lower on this list because of incomplete specimens, the Paralititan was only discovered last 2001. Maybe, any further fossil discoveries will provide hints that this dinosaur was even been bigger than originally estimated.

2. Dreadnoughtus

This dinosaur is  estimated to have been as tall as a 13-storey building. The Dreadnoughtus was only discovered late last year and scientists believe that this could be the heaviest land animal ever discovered.

1. Argentinosaurus

Though still up to debate, because of its incomplete limb fossils, the Argentinosaurus is the largest dinosaurs. It s possible that it weighed over 100 tons and was over 100 feet tall as well.
