5. Rajko Mitić
Red Star’s first star and captain is still considered one of the club’s best players. Even the club’s stadium proudly wears his name. Born on November 19, 1922, Mitić had to wait until his 23rd year before playing league football due to World War II. Nevertheless, he has managed to lead Red Star to five championship titles and four cup titles – three of which were won in a row. He has two silver Olympic medals with the Yugoslav national team from the games held in London and Helsinki where he was the skipper to one of the best Yugoslav soccer generations of all times.
