“To come to Zemun and not stop by “saran” is like never having been to Zemun at all.” This sentence can best define this restaurant. Zemun is a municipality of Belgrade, located on the other side of the river Dunav, when in Belgrade, be sure to visit it. This fish restaurant is considered as the soul and pride of Zemun. “Šaran” is located on the bank of the Danube, and it is the guardian of the spirit of the time long gone. The restaurant was open one century ago, by a local fisherman Vicentije Vukotic, and the place became famous for its fish soup very fast. The recipe of the soup remains unchanged even today. The menu is filled with many different traditional Serbian fish cuisine, and you can find meals like the famous fish soup, Mediteranian cornbread (served with dried tomatoes, fresh basil, pine nuts, and Adriatic anchovies) and many fish specialties, but for those who are not much of a fish food lovers, they also offer other non-fish meals.
