Not everyone can make time for a lengthy vacation, which is why we created this list of the 11 best places to visit in the USA for couples for a weekend if you and your significant other just need to get away from it all for awhile.

The world we live in today can be fast and stressful to the point where it can be hard to keep up. Taking a break is important to keeping up morale, which is why weekend getaways are becoming increasingly popular, especially for couples who need a little more time to themselves to escape the pressures of everyday life.

Some jobs don’t give you an insane amount of personal or vacation time, even though your friend Greg from college has unlimited paid time-off in his fancy job that he posts about constantly on Facebook. Unfriend Greg. Greg is the worst. Not everyone can be Greg. We can pretend to be Greg for a weekend, though. Take that.

How do you pick the perfect place to go with your significant other to show up Greg? This list, obviously. I had a few things in mind when creating this list: amenities, how well-suited it is to just a weekend (so, Disney World is out of the question since you don’t have an entire week to spend here, let’s be practical), and something to offer everyone. You don’t always have to compromise. I checked out Forbes and Travel & Leisure for some recommendations and then pulled the best ones. The more diverse the attractions are, the better they rank on this list. If a place doesn’t have activity diversity, forget about it. You’ll get in a fight with Denise and then she’ll give you the silent treatment all weekend because all she wanted was a spa weekend and you took her camping. Don’t take Denise camping.

11. Kansas City, Missouri

Don’t you dare scoff at LEGOLAND being on the list of things to do in Kansas City. LEGOLAND is awesome and if you disagree then you’re wrong and I’m going to personally ask you to stop reading and go think about your life choices. This city also has other things to do, including zip lining and tree climbing for the adventurous types and coffee factory tours for those who prefer indoor activities.

10. Seattle, Washington

Things to do: Visit Seattle Art Museum, Spa and snow fun in Suncadia, Sledding, Farm resorts, stay in Treehouse Point

We are continuing our list of best places to visit in the USA for couples for a weekend with Seattle that has pretty decent weather all year. It’s notorious for rain, but in the summer the weather is actually really nice to walk around the city in. There are attractions for every type of couple, and some of them are unique to the Seattle area. Treehouse Point has a rustic and romantic vibe if you want to unplug from city life. Seattle will give you major Twin Peaks feelings, which is great timing for the revival later this year.

9. Savannah, Georgia

Things to do: Breakfast at Clary’s, visit 1868 Mercer Williams House Museum, treat yourselves in Sweet Water Spa, Have dinner in Elizabeth on 37th

Atlanta, next on the list of best places to visit in the USA for couples for a weekend is more popular, but not as well-suited for a weekend getaway as Savannah, which is known for being a great place to visit because of its great weather. There are tons of romantic spots, including the long roster of quaint restaurants like Elizabeth on 37th and Clary’s. If you’re feeling super fancy, you can try the famous Savannah Carriage tours and the Sweet Water Spa.

8. New Orleans, Louisiana

Things to do: Dinner cruise, Double decker bus tour, Creole cooking class, Tour in Historic Plantation, see Audubon Park

New Orleans has two reputations: a place to party on Mardis Gras and a place that’s one of the most romantic in the country. It just depends on the time of year and the places you visit. A dinner cruise is a classy and romantic option, and you can also try a creole cooking class to spice up your relationship. If you like nature you can visit Audubon Park.

7. Houston, Texas

Things to do: Culinary tours, cooking classes, indoor skydiving, visit The Cockrell Butterfly Center, see museums

I went to college in Houston so I’m a little bit biased in saying this is not my favorite on the list of best places to visit in the USA for couples for a weekend , but if you and your significant other would like to get stuck in traffic on your weekend getaway then, by all means, take a trip. That being said, there are still really lovely places to visit as long as you plan to not be on the road during prime hours. The art museums in Midtown are beautiful and unique. Houston Culinary Tours are great for foodies and there’s also a nature center to check out.

6. Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota

Things to do: Explore Minnehaha Falls Park, explore Mall of America, ride the Flour Tower in at the Mill City Museum, try Twin Cities Food Tours

The Twin Cities is a great option for couples to check out on a weekend trip. Minnehaha Falls Park will appeal to nature lovers and the Mall of America will appeal to shoppers. If you want to add some culture to the relationship, then head to the Mill City Museum.

5. San Diego, California

Things to do: Experience The Gondola Company, La Jolla Kayak, explore Coronado Municipal Beach

I think this one would really make Greg feel inadequate. This is one of the most visited cities in California, primarily because of its beautiful beaches. Sometimes a weekend trip is best spent laying on the beach and taking a nap. For adventure, La Jolla Kayak is a great option. If you want to feel like you went to Italy instead of staying domestic, take a romantic gondola ride in Balboa Park. 4. Nashville, Tennessee

Things to do: visit Cheekwood Botanical Garden, check out Elmington Park, try private cabana dining, have dinner in The Patterson House

Ignore the Denver Airport conspiracy theories for just a weekend so you can enjoy some romantic time. For those interested in picnics, you can enjoy that in the Denver Botanic Gardens. Austin is the most eccentric option on this list of best places to visit in the USA for couples for a weekend, so you and your significant other should definitely take a trip here if you want some more fun and unique dates. Austin still has drive-in movie theaters. Get a great taco and explore the city. There’s something exciting on every corner and a lot of interesting people.

There’s something to do in Indianapolis for every type of individual and couple, making it our top choice on our list. Check out a live jazz performance that happens every night at The Chatterbox downtown or live blues in The Slippery Noodle Inn. Walk around Central Canal or fish, swim, and sail at Eagle Creek Park if you want some outdoor time. There’s bound to be an activity you’ll both love here.
