After capturing the city of Nanking (that served as the capital of the Republic of China at the time), Japanese troops started committing mass murder and mass rape over the course of six weeks. It is estimated that 50,000 to 300,000 Chinese people lost their lives and that 20,000 women were systematically raped. The focus of the documentary is on the individuals who tried their best to stop these monstrous events and save as many people as they could.
