In 2015, 25 hate crimes occurred in Lexington, which ranks as sixth on our list of 10 US cities where hate crimes are increasing, while in 2016 the figure rose to 41. Of these racially motivated offenses followed by religiously based incidents were the most prevalent. It is possible that the number of hate crimes will continue to increase in the future since Kentucky passed the bill under which violence against police officers is seen as a hate crime. The similar bill, popularly called “Blue lives matters,” was previously adopted in Louisiana.
