There are so many things children can learn by starting to study these fields, especially if this is done through games and other fun activities. As it is, New York City offers dozens of options for those looking to enroll their children into this type of summer camp, with weekly tuitions that go for quite a few hundred dollars. Overnight options are available for older kids, but for the most part, you’ll get to take your kid to camp in the morning and get them back in the evening, all after a day spent full of interesting activities.

If you hope that one day your child may choose a profession that involves science, technology, engineering or math, you may want to test things out a bit, take them to a camp like this and see if it sparks their interest. Of course, only if they haven’t already expressed an interest in these fields, which makes things easier from the get-go. In order to create our list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC we looked high and low after a bunch of these summer camps using Google, of course, and great database for everything NYC has to offer on Class Curious. With a list in hand, we checked to see the age group the camp is dedicated to – the more age groups it covers, the more points the camp received. Then, we checked out just how expensive a week spent at one of these camps is and handed out points by rewarding the cheapest of them on a sliding scale. We also rewarded extra points to those camps that offer a multitude of options to choose from, whether that’s robotics, engineering, coding, or playing Sherlock Holmes.

That being said, here are 10 science and STEM camps for kids in NYC that make us wish we were children again just so we could attend too.

10. Brooklyn Robot Foundry

Score: 13

The Brooklyn Robot Foundry has a really cool camp set out this summer, seeking to engage kids with engineering concepts and hands-on building.

The camps are dedicated for 1st to 4th graders for all weeks, although kids through 7th grade are welcomed for Programmers Weeks. For July and August, the camp offers full week sessions from 9 AM to 3 PM, with extended day option until 6 PM starting July 5th, for an extra $30. The camps that take place in July and August alternate between Robot Discovery and Robot Explorers. Another exciting detail is that for one week in August, between the 8th and 11th, only girls can participate.

The price for these camps is $816 for the program, and an additional $150 is required for materials.

9. Camp Pixel

Score: 14

Camp Pixel, the number nine on the list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC brags that it’s the best technology day camp in New York City to combine digital and physical projects. The camp is dedicated to kids from 7 years old to 14 years old, divided into three age ranges.

During the camp, kids get to use technology to create ideas for the future. The purpose of it all is to get kids to learn, understand, and apply digital technology in the real world. Attendees will use 3D printers, develop video games, play around with VR, create digital art, and so on, all the while having fun.

A week of fun at Camp Pixel costs $855, although booking multiple weeks will lower the price to $805. Depending on the week you choose to go, there are various programs the kids can attend. For instance, your kid can learn about controlling drones and how they work, or how to program a Minecraft Mod.

8. New York Hall of Science

The New York Hall of Science that ranks 8th on the list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC has a pretty cool program set up for children, especially those that are interested in learning more about robotics.

The camp serves kids of different grades, divided into two groups – grades 3 and 4, and grades 5 and 6. The camp lasts for a week and has kids attending from 9 AM to 3 PM.

During this time, students will learn the basics of engineering, as well as how to design, build and program using creativity, logic and problem-solving skills. They will get to learn how to make their robots to move, react and make sounds by using a wide range of sensors and cool motors. At the end of camp, students will even get to put their robots through a competition.

The robotics camp costs $400, although the price drops to $375 if they’re a member of the NYSCI.

7. MoMath Summer Camp

The National Museum of Mathematics has one of the coolest summer programs for kids. Welcoming kids from first to eighth grade, the camp seeks to teach them all how cool math can be.

Depending on the chosen week, MoMath offers differently themed camps. For instance, kids can learn how to solve and create perplexing puzzles and mazes, learn about game theory, put geometry in the world around us, and so on.

Students will spend their days at camp from 9 AM to 3 PM, although early drop-off and late pick-up are also options for additional fees.

Talking of fees, a one-week session costs $860 here, with financial aid being available for students from low-income backgrounds.

6. Marymount STEAM Camp

Up next on our list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC is the Marymount STEAM Camp, which focuses on teaching kids more about science, technology, engineering, math, and art. The kids will get to participate in experiments, nature and field studies, and learn to apply technology in a number of fields, including robotics, 3D printing, gaming, digital design, video game design, natural science, physics, chemistry and more.

Similarly to the other camps we’ve seen so far, students attending this camp will be dropped off at 9 AM and picked up at 3 PM Monday through Friday. On top of the projects they’ll enjoy in camp, they’ll also take weekly field trips to New York’s science institutions and museums, welcome visits from professionals of the STEAM community, while also enjoying daily outdoor recess and sports and even a weekly swim instruction.

Camp costs $1,000 for a week, although if you want your child to attend for multiple weeks, the price goes down a bit. For 5 weeks at camp STEAM, for instance, you’ll pay $4,000.

5. i2camp

Score: 15

Next up on our list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC is the i2Camp, which offers a wide range of options for those looking to attend. For instance, kids will be able to choose whether they want to spend their week learning about 3D printing, developing apps, building toys that come alive, learn about chemical engineering, study about ways to combat cancer, investigate fictive crime scenes, code cyber security solutions, design video games from scratch, engineer sound, or learn about electronic engineering and design. The i2camp offers one of the most diverse selections of camps in the whole New York City.

There are a couple of locations across NYC where the camp sessions take place, such as the Marymount school and the United Nations International School, with additional locations being available too, both in the state of New York, as well as New Jersey, Massachusetts, California, and Connecticut.

The price for one week is $950, but it drops to $850 if the child is enrolled to two or more camp weeks.

4. Curious Jane Camp

Curious Jane Camp is the only one on our list that caters specifically to girls. The camp offers a wide range of classes for girls from 1st grade to 6th grade.

On top of classes that teach girls how to sew their own toys, do magic or learn about animals, there are also classes teaching them about science. SPA science, for instance, will have them create bath bombs or lip balms, while Spy Science will have them make footprint molds, extract DNA, build intruder alarms and more. Similarly, Ready, Set, Zoom, will teach girls how to experiment with ways to make objects move, whether with wind-up mechanisms, zip lines, catapults and more.

Classes take place both in Brooklyn and Manhattan, in several locations, and cost between $585 and $675 per week depending on location.

3. ID Tech

We are continuing our list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC with ID Tech that offers a wide range of camps for kids starting at 6 years old and up to 18 years old, with older kids having the option of spending the night at camp. There is even a camp specifically designed for girls.

Depending on their age, kids can learn about programming and app development, game design and development, robotics and engineering, 3D modeling and printing and more. Each of these categories encompasses multiple camps, depending on the child’s interest. For example, the programming camp will let kids ages 7 to 17 choose whether they want to learn to code with Tynker, Scratch, or Java, learn the basics of coding, build their own laptops or get an intro into electrical engineering, which makes it one of the best in these 10 science and STEM camps for kids in NYC.

Day camp will cost from $799 per week, plus another $60 for lunches. Kids will be dropped at 8-9 AM Monday through Friday, and get picked up at 5-6 PM Monday through Thursday, and by 4 PM on Friday. 2. NORY

Second spot on our list of science and STEM camps for kids in NYC is taken over by NORY’s summer camps. The camps are designed for kids as young as 3 years old, and as old as 12 years old.

They will be able to learn about robots and science, mix swimming classes with learning about science, or mix soccer practice with learning about STEM subjects.

Every week has a theme, such as robot making, kitchen science, super heroes, out of this world, explosions and so on.

On top of the great classes offered by NORY, students will receive complimentary lunch, as well as get shuttled to and from camp. One week of camp generally costs between $700 and $850 depending on the type of camp chosen. If you want to enroll the kids in multiple weeks, there is a discount applied.

1. Camp Intrepid

Finally, at the top of the list we find Camp Intrepid, which offers multiple camp options for kids to choose from. Depending on the camp, they can accommodate kids as young as 5 and as old as 13.

Camps cover a wide range of topics. For instance, one will teach kids about 3D printers, computer programming, and robots, while another will have them use science to crack codes like the world’s best detectives. Another camp will teach them about space exploration, spacecrafts and astronomy right inside a planetarium.

The tuitions costs are $750 for first-time attendees, with returning campers getting a $50 discount.
