In 2021, an estimated 16.7% of its residents lived below the line of poverty, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This is the third highest poverty rate among all 50 states in the US. Only 16% hold a bachelor’s degree in New Mexico, while 35.7% of those aged between 18 and 24 have a college or associate degree.
