“Hate” is a strong word, but you asked for the 10 most hated countries in Asia.
This sentiment is completely bonkers. People “hate” other people for a lot of different reasons–many of them are subjective or based on their own experience. It doesn’t seem possible to decide the “most hated,” country. Besides how can you judge an entire country for the actions of a few people in that country–whether it is the President, the Prime Minister, or just some man on the street. So much of the news we see today depicts bad news about a place and the “bad guys” in that place.
Certainly, rulers can cause problems for the rest of the world. Still, should we write-off an entire land because of them? It doesn’t seem very fair. We need to use as much objective information as possible when forming opinions–about anything really–but certainly about something as important as political allegiance and global understanding. We shouldn’t get caught up in propaganda from any one place. However, propaganda can be difficult to recognize–more difficult than you’d assume.
Tensions between whole countries usually stem from their history. Wars, or years of oppression and Colonialism, effect the perspective of people within a country and the relationships between them–that goes for long after the events surrounding the specific tensions may have ended. For example, there is a lot of tension between Korea and Japan. There is an anti-Japanese sentiment in Korea mostly because of historic events like war and other negative things. There is also speculation of people through forums, what are the most annoying things about Japan. According to Quora, there are few examples of insanely high prices, horrible noise pollution and lack of product variety. This doesn’t seem entirely scientific–it’s much more anecdotal, pretty much the opposite of the objective information we discussed earlier.
It is clearly not at all rational. This site has already written an article about the 16 Most Hated Countries in the World in 2015 and some Asian countries are already on that list but in this article, we will narrow our search to the 10 most hated countries in the Asian continent. Before that, let’s see the other opinions. According to a BBC poll, Germany is the most positively viewed nation in the world and Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, and Iran are on the bottom of the list.
Now let’s see the situation through our research. To do this research, we have used a simple methodology, using several indicators which create an opinion of people around the globe. One is the terrorism index from Institute for Economics and Peace and The Economist democratic index. Firstly, we have listed 10 countries with the highest risk of terrorism and ranked them through the democracy index. For each country in the list, using the Human Rights Watch resources, we have provided some additional information about the problems they have, which are not approved by the rest of the world. What we are saying is that hate is usually based on FEAR. Therefore high incidents of terrorism or propensity for terrorism makes people afraid–irrationally–of entire countries. This fear turns very quickly to “hate.” It is not a coincidence that terrorism is related to the countries from Asia and we will discuss which are 10 most hated countries in Asia.
Here is the list:
10. India
The last place on this list belongs to India. India is one of the most populous countries in the world but also very hated in Asia and the world. So, we ask ourselves, what is wrong with this country, what exactly it does to be hated in the world and in Asia? The main problems are human rights and even bigger problems are inequality all over the country regarding the democratic values, because India is a very big country. The biggest issues in India are the lack of women’s rights, minority rights and it’s ineffective governments institutions. But not everyone hates India, there are some countries in the world that love this country because of political, cultural or any other reason. For example, Russia is considered the best strategic friend of India, which is obvious, but there are many other cultural friends like South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.
9. Philippines
The government of Philippines that ranked 9th on our list of most hated countries in Asia is often judged by the rest of the world for using radical solutions to solve its rising crime and drug related problems. The courts in the country don’t provide fair trials, which often results in death sentences. Because there are many other ways to prevent crime and punish criminals without harming them, it seems the country doesn’t want to putt an effort to solve this problem.
8. Thailand
So, we have heard that people hate some problems that actually affected their own countries in earlier time. Most of the hated countries are one of those which authorities do nothing to change these situations. So, these countries are going through political instabilities, which every citizen feels on its skin. That is the situation with Thailand. Since Thailand government is overturned by the military, in the country are deeply curtailed human rights, like freedom of expression, peaceful public gatherings, political activities etc. Over 3 million people from Burma who immigrated to this country are facing abuse and exploitation, and there are also cases of human trafficking.
7. Pakistan
What should we say new about Pakistan, next in line on our list of most hated countries in Asia, that we haven’t heard on TV? The country is faced with terrorism for a long time of period and now we the Pakistan government decided to give one part of the power to the military in order to establish law and order. It’s a long way to achieving this, and on that way, there is a lot of people suffering in violent attacks. Like in other problematic countries in there are also violating of human rights, especially with respect to women. The regime in this country is more extreme than in Thailand and because of that, Pakistan is number 7 on this list.
6. Iraq
Some of the information we get through the news can be incomplete, but many reports on terror activity come from the Middle East region. This is where Iraq is located. During 2015, this country is faced with the conflict between ISIS and government forces where ISIS killed hundreds of civilians and raped many women. The country is facing political instability, terrorism, and lack of human rights during for a long time of period.
5. Russia
We are in the middle of the list of most hated countries in Asia. Russia is the specific case in this list because it has no war, it has no terrorism but has many enemies in the world. The main reason is probably the lack of human rights. The Russian government leads a very individualistic politic. Europe has imposed sanctions, as has the US, on the Russian Federation due to alleged misconduct and disagreement about solving Ukraine crisis. Also, Russia violates the rights of its gay citizens.
4. China
Probably in the near future, China, next on our list of most hated countries in Asia will be the first economy in the world, but that is not important for our list. The government of China had the basics to govern the country for a long period because of the excellent economy, natural resources, and good work labor. But still, this country has potential to be unstable, because perhaps one day it is going to go through a transition to democracy. And that means that human rights will be respected more than currently. The government systematically curtails freedom of speech, association, and religion rights. This is a high authoritarian state.
3. Afghanistan
The third most hated country in Asia is Afghanistan. Terror and violation human rights are often synonymous with this country. During 2015 fighting between Taliban and the government of Afghanistan is escalated. The number of killed civilians increased and reached 1 million people.
2. Yemen
Second place on our list of most hated countries in Asia is Yemen. This country is in the middle of the civil war where we have 4 fractions which control the whole territory of Syria including ISIS, Al-Qaeda and other small terrorist organizations. People from the rest of the world probably blame the leaders of the country who did not prevent this from happening.
1. Syria
This list of most hated countries in Asia is in the end and the first place belongs to Syria. This country is affected by the war which lasts for about six years and causes the biggest migrant crisis in Europe. It must be true that people don’t hate the Syrian victims of this war and crisis. If anything, people seem to hate WHAT’S GOING ON in these hated countries and not the countries or people themselves. During last year, many people fled to Europe to find a way to avoid terror, war, poverty and death. This crisis is catastrophic and it is very hard to believe that there are the systems which will eventually result in human suffer and destruction. Hopefully, things will improve.
