While Iceland suffered heavy losses during the financial crisis from 2008 to 2011, the country posted a remarkable recovery, with a heavy focus on tourism. Since Iceland has to import most of its goods, as the country has a population of around 400,000, things are generally more expensive to buy. Transportation costs are also quite high since its an island.
