The amount of disposable paper and plastic cups, plates, and containers that are being used each year is mind-blowing. It’s estimated that over 400 billion disposable containers are used each year, the majority of which can’t be recycled. Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) accounts for about 1% of that total, with 4 billion of the company’s to-go cups being tossed annually. Starbucks is trying to develop a fully-recyclable cup, as though its cups are primarily paper, they are also lined with plastic. Over 66% of Americans reported using disposable dishes in 2016.
