Somalia ranks second on our list of most barbaric countries in the world. It is an eastern nation in Africa, bordering Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya, as well as the Indian Ocean. It is home to nearly 11 million people, and life hasn’t been easy to people living here, especially since the country is known as one of the modern motherland for pirates.
Sadly, Somalia is also the top-ranking country among nations where girls and women are subjected to genital mutilation – 98%. In a terrifying and sickening detail, UNICEF notes that 83% of girls who underwent this type of procedure had their genitalia sewn closed.
And yet, this is a nation that also ranks high for child marriages. 8% of girls are married before they’re even 15, the number growing to 45% until they reach 18 years of age.
Somalia also gets points for the many executions that have taken place on its territories.
