1. Bedbugs
Everyone’s heard the saying “sleep tight—don’t let the bedbugs bite”. Probably because not only are these the most annoying bugs found in your house, but they are more common than you think. Here is another case where even the cleanest of houses could be affected, since they can be picked up pretty much anywhere. Similar to the size and even take on the shape of an apple seed, it is a general misconception that bed bugs are these little microscopic creatures that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Although this may be somewhat true for the babies (or nymphs) as they are much smaller and harder to see, bedbugs are definitely large enough to be seen on top of being a dark brown color.
You may have a little trouble identifying this specific pest problem because they tend to hide during the day and then come out to feed on your blood at night. The welts they leave behind look a lot like flea or mosquito bites, however, there is one good way to distinguish their bite from other pests. When a bedbug comes out to eat, it will most likely leave behind three separate bite marks (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). These marks will typically be in a small cluster either in a straight line or even a zig-zag pattern on the flesh. Check your sheets if you feel like your bites could be from bedbugs. Often you can find tiny little spots of blood and waste they leave behind. Like head lice, bedbugs are not known to carry diseases, but the bites can lead to some serious infections. No wonder it’s the number one in our list of most annoying bugs found in your house, right?
Although it won’t be cheap, calling a professional in the event of an infestation is probably your best bet. You’d be surprised at all the different places besides your bed that these little bugs will try to hide, and even missing one bedbug will eventually prove ineffective. However, an exterminator will often treat your home with extreme heat that will essentially fry the bugs. If you have a steam cleaner, you could save money by going around your entire house blasting everything and anything with steam, but you won’t want to leave even a square inch left untreated.
