You probably have your own strong opinions about which Marvel women that should get a movie. Without a doubt, Marvel has given us lots of wonderful (and not so wonderful) movies starring the comic book heroes that we love, including the Avengers, the X-Men, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four. But still a gap is left unfilled, that of female Marvel characters.
This list is maybe more of a dream than anything else, but for me, these ladies deserve to be properly represented in the Marvel on-screen world; and not just as part of an ensemble or in a TV series, but at the front of a full solo movie starring a Marvel superhero or superhuman. So this is my wish list of the Marvel women who should get a movie rather sooner than later.
Furthermore, I think that a female-led Marvel movie could end up being more than profitable for the studio, as there are more fans out there, both male and female, who would enjoy watching such a movie. Who knows, some day it could even make it to the list of The 20 Highest Rated Movies of All-Time.
So, let’s take a look at the countdown for the Marvel women that should get a movie as soon as possible.
10. Clea
Clea is not a very well known character outside of the Marvel fan sphere, but there lies her potential as well. She could be easily relaunched into the Marvel Universe as a movie character, thus making it new and fresh for the younger and unknowing generations. She is a sorceress who can teleport and perform telekinesis, and she is also Doctor Strange’s disciple and lover.
9. Valkyrie
Oddly enough, this Asgardian has not appeared on screen thus far, despite the Thor movies that could have been the perfect scenario for her to show up. This member of Defenders could be easily introduced in several Marvel stories or even have her own film.
8. Misty Knight
An ex-cop with superhuman strength, a detective with a bionic arm, a martial artist with technopathy… all of this combined in Misty Knight is a key to success. Moreover, the Heroes for Hire co-founder is a sexy African American heroine who we would all love to watch on screen, preferably embodied by a fit and sensual actress, right?
7. Moondragon
A skilful geneticist, a master in martial arts and a powerful telepath; all these features make Moondragon worthy of a spot in Marvel’s wonderful film world. Plus, having a bisexual character on screen promises an exciting plot and a bit of controversy.
The countdown of the Marvel women that should get a movie continues on the next page.
6. Black Widow
Ok, so Natasha Romanoff has already shined in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but has she really? We actually think that she has much more to offer; up to now she’s been pictured as a secondary character adding to her male counterparts and that is downright unfair. Despite her lack of superpowers, this S.H.I.E.L.D. superspy deserves to really be in the spotlight.
5. She-Hulk
She-Hulk is much more than Bruce Banner’s cousin, and that’s why she earned a spot in this countdown. She embodies female power and is a highly skilled lawyer who has served as legal counsel for various superheroes. Finally, she deserves to get on-screen already because rumors have been going on since the early 1990’s.
4. Scarlet Witch
Although she has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (played by Elizabeth Olsen, the third Olsen sister), Scarlet Witch is on our list because she is a character worthy of a standalone movie. Moreover, we’ve only seen her in the post-credit sequence of Captain America: Winter Soldier and we don’t actually know how important her role will be in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.
3. Spider-Woman
Although not really related to Spider-Man, Spider-Woman has a lot to offer: she’s a double agent, an Avenger and an alien too. Moreover she could appear in any of her forms: Jessica Drew or Julia Carpenter mainly.
2. Wasp
As one of the founding members of the Avengers, Janet van Dyne was originally considered to be the female character to appear in The Avengers movie. As we all know, the Black Widow ended up being cast, but rumors indicate that she is likely to appear in the upcoming Ant-Man movie. If she doesn’t appear in the on-screen Marvel world any time soon, fans will be deeply disappointed.
1. Captain Marvel
Also known as Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers is, without a doubt, the female Marvel character that most urgently deserves a movie of her own. She’s not only loved by fans, but filming a Captain Marvel movie would also be very beneficial to the studio: she’s a semi-regular member of the Avengers and representing them, she joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, she has the S.H.I.E.L.D. connections and, more importantly, she has Marvel in her name. Because she is probably the most powerful female hero of the Marvel Universe, this super strong and flying heroine deserves to star in a movie as soon as possible.
