Topping the list of the 10 largest NFL stadiums in 2021 is MetLife Stadium, which is located in New Jersey and is home to the New York Giants as well as the New York Jets. The stadium opened back in 2010, when its naming rights were acquired by one of the biggest insurance companies in the US in MetLife (NYSE:MET), and is actually owned by the MetLife Stadium Company which itself is a joint venture of the Jets and the Giants, which was the private financier of the stadium. When it was built, it was the most expensive stadium ever built in the United States, having costed more than $1.6 billion. If adjusted for inflation, this would have cost more than $1.8 billion.

The stadium was a replacement of the Giants Stadium, which itself was 30 years old, and was originally created as part of the bid made by New York for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Of course, as we all know the bid was eventually won by London. It is also one of the only two stadiums in the NFL which is shared by two teams. It is also the stadium with the shortest distance between the field and the front row line seat in the NFL. The way the stadium has been structured, it can be easily reconfigured for the Jets or the Giants within a few hours, which is a huge necessity in a stadium being shared between two teams. The stadium even has a solar ring attached to the roof consisting of over 1,350 solar panels and can generate around 350KW of electricity. The excess power is often used for general use in the stadium or even sent back to the grid. Apart from the regular NFL matches, the stadium has also hosted international soccer matches including one between the United States and Brazil, which had a near record attendance of more than 77,000 people. A match between Barcelona and Juventus drew more than 82,000 fans. It has also hosted the premier event of WWE, WrestleMania twice in 2017 and the last one in 2019. It has also hosted dozens of concerts of some of the biggest singers and bands in the world.
