Japan ranks fourth in the global egg production, with a total of about 2.52 million tons of eggs. This accounted for 3.4% of the total world production. Japan also produces white on white eggs from rice-fed hens. The demand for eggs and egg products in Japan is greater than the domestic supply, which is why Japan also imports a considerable amount. The country also specializes in producing eggs through non-automated means.
