Most times playing on your phone is a way to relax and other times it’s something that causes as much stress as pleasure, but what we can all agree on is that these 10 free no WiFi games for Android and iPhone are the best because they’re not constantly reliant on a network connection.
Mobile internet can be expensive depending, of course, on the provider you’re with and the deal you got. But that’s not necessarily an issue when you’re commuting to and from work unless you’re playing a game that absolutely needs an internet connection. That can turn quite ugly and cause you more stress than needed instead of helping you enjoy your ride.
So, we decided to take a look at the list of games that work offline, requiring no WiFi connection or a data one, at that, since accessing open WIFI connections can be a security risk, while consuming your data plan can cost you quite a bit. We wanted the games we’re looking at to work both on Android and iPhone, for them to be free, and to work offline, as previously stated. If you are looking for more free games, we have another treat for you – 11 Best Free Android Games of 2015!
And, how did we go about finding free no WiFi games for Android and iPhone? Well, we took a look at several sites providing such lists to start with, such as Phone Arena, Android Authority and Android Pit to name a few. We compiled the whole list and then took into account how many times these games showed up on our references, handing out a number of points in direct connection to the frequency of mentioning.
Then, we checked what score they had and how many reviews they’d received on Google Play, mostly because there are few people ranking and rating apps on iTunes. Therefore, we found it more relevant to take into account these apps that have hundreds of thousands or even tens of millions of ratings granted by users, rather than a few hundred on iTunes.
Our next step was to rank the games by the number of ratings granted to each game. For instance, games with less than 500,000 ratings got 4 points, while games with over 25 million ratings got 10 points.
Further, we also took into account the score the game had, offering a title with a score of 4.8 and over 10 points, and trickled down towards a score of 4, which got 2 points. Anything below this number was awarded 1 point.
In the end, we added all these numbers together and came up with the final rating for the list of the 10 free no WIFI games for Android and iPhone.
10. Townsmen
Score – 11
Townsmen is a game that in the Play Store has a rating of 4.3 given by over 310,000 people. What kind of game is this? Well, it’s pretty simple and it’s a recipe that many have found success with – city simulation. What you need to do is to create a medieval empire, create a thriving economy, and keep your villagers happy. You’ll be doing some mining here and there, harvesting crops, taxing your people, building houses and taverns, and decorating the place with money-wasting statues.
You’re basically going to become the ruler of an empire and things are going to go as well as you manage them. There are dozens of different buildings to play with, and your own layout will make your empire unique among the many more in the Townsmen world. The different scenarios at play will keep you on edge and you’ll enjoy playing for longer due to all the changes and events taking place.
The great part about it is that once you’ve downloaded the necessary data, you can play offline. Then, when you get connected to the Internet again everything will get backed up and, if necessary, more data will get downloaded.
9. Swamp Attack
Score – 14
Your house in the swamps is under attack and you need to defend yourself and your little slice of heaven. Animals are going crazy, and you need to be ready for anything and everything – fire up your shotgun to keep away the gators and other zombie critters. You can switch between weapons, get boosters and so on as you advance through the game. You can even use explosives if that’s what you desire to better protect yourself when those packs of animals are too much to handle with a mere shotgun or whatever else gun you’ve upgraded to.
Of course, this game is great to be played when you’ve got an Internet connection, but it’s not mandatory, especially if you don’t plan on spending any dollars on your boosters. It’s a fun game that requires very little strategy, so as long as you have some free time, this is it.
8. Jetpack Joyride
Score – 14
Remember that game a couple of years back where you had to keep a birdie in the sky while passing through obstacles? Well yeah, it looks like that a bit, although it’s not nearly as annoying. In fact, it’s quite fun to play. Your character owns a jetpack, if you couldn’t figure that out from the title of the game. You then have to run around a spaceship-like terrain, shooting down opponents, collecting coins and avoiding those deadly light rays. As you advance through the game, you’ll also have to dodge lasers, missiles and other obstacles coming your way.
You can make the game more “you” as you go through the levels and customize the way you look with some pretty ridiculous outfits as you wear some of the coolest-looking jetpacks. If you want more, let’s see what’s next on our list of free no WiFi games for Android and iPhone.

4. Crossy Road
Score – 16
Why did the chicken cross the road? That’s a joke as old as the world, probably, but it’s one that’s been the stepping stone for many games ever since video games first got made. The premise is a familiar one – you have a character that needs to cross the road while avoiding incoming traffic. Cross Road takes that and makes it super cute by adding figurines and making sure the environment matches the character. For instance, you’ll cross from iceberg to iceberg with a penguin, while the environment will shake at every jump you make while playing as a dinosaur.
It’s an interesting game, that can even be played with your friends. For all those times when you’d rather game alone, however, it also works without an Internet connection. That’s why we put it on our list of free no WiFi games for Android and iPhone.

1. Shadow Fight 2
Score – 18

That means that you won’t simply be playing around with the character’s stats, but you’ll also be equipping it with weapons, armor sets, and so on. It’s a successful combination that the developers are milking, especially given the success of the original Shadow Fight game.
