4. Peru
A 14-year-old boy died from plague in Peru in 2010 when an outbreak of pneumonic and bubonic plague occurred. A total of 17 cases of plague have been confirmed by the Ministry of Health in Peru as of July 2010. All 17 cases were reported in Ascope province of Department La Libertad. The last reported outbreak of plague before that was in 1994 when 35 people were killed by the Black Death.
