Under the 1944 Education Act, homeschooling is legal in the United Kingdom. Unless the child previously attended government school system, there are no requirements to inform the authorities if the parents decide to educate their child at home. They are not obliged to follow the national curriculum but they have to ensure that the education they provide is efficient and suitable to child’s age, ability or any kind of special needs he/she might have. It is also legal in Northern Ireland and Wales as well.
