10. What matters in life?

Again, a question depending on our personal beliefs. But humans are constantly in need of validations of fellow humans which creates the confusion that others might not have the same values. It’s better to determine what matters according to our own needs.

8. What is right and wrong?

You’d think that all of us have similar ideas of what’s right and wrong about a lot of things. Like all of us probably unanimously agree that murder, theft, violence, fighting etc., are wrong. But when you really think about it, the circumstances of each act calls into question whether it is justified or not. Hence our base notions of right and wrong are vastly different. A really interesting study in morality is the Euthypro Dilemma, which questions whether morality is absolute.

7. Why do we dream?

We all have dreams. Here we’re not talking about our aspirations in life but the literal dreams we see during slumber. Do they mean anything? These stills of films we see every night sometimes reflect real life but at others show things vastly different from reality. We often dream about people we have never met. One can’t help but wonder if there’s a reason we’re getting these nightly visions.

6. What is the ideal society?

This question has plagued the life of many philosophers from Socrates to modern day strategists. But the question doesn’t just concern the good and bad acts of humans, it also calls into question the type of governments, the type of rulers/leaders and if there should be an overarching force of law at all. There are a lot of factions who have different ideals but that just means that there is no one answer to what would be “an ideal society”.

5. Does fate exist? If so, do we have free will?

Another version of the free will question but more geared in religiosity. What are we doing in this world? IS everything pre-determined? If we believe that everything is meant to happen as it is, then why do our actions count? Most of us run to the idea that what’s meant to be, will be but doesn’t that make our choices redundant?

4. What should be the goal of humanity?

The first answer that comes to mind is world peace. But to attain that there are a lot of smaller goals involved like eradicating poverty, hunger, illiteracy, etc. These goals shape the lives of many people but what about the common fellow. Sure, we all want these things for the world but are we consciously trying to work towards these goals? The honest answer is no, at least not all the time. Then what is in essence the goal?

3. Where do you find meaning in your life?

We’re all living our life but sometimes most of us wonder, are we living? Or are we JUST living? We go through life’s motions constantly but sometimes we stop and think what is this all for? Why am I living? When will all of this be worth it?

2. What is love?

Is love just a concept? Is it just a chemical reaction in our brain? If we take the latter to be true, it takes all the magic and optimism out of the emotion. It gives humans a sense of fulfillment to believe that the emotion they’re feeling is pure and somehow predetermined by the heavens. It’s much easier to believe that the positive emotions you’re feeling are not related to any of the worldly influences and are unadulterated. But what if it is just a chemical reaction?
