10 Biggest Mistakes in American Horror Story

The show’s popularity has left people with a lot to say about the 10 biggest mistakes in American Horror Story. Although the show is excellently executed and has viewers waiting for every new episode like it’s an important event in their life (and it might as well be for a certain part of them), the show has certain plot holes and leaves certain questions unanswered. If this one TV show isn’t quite your cup of tea, though, you might be interested in checking another list we have on one of these hits of modern day entertainment titled “10 glaring plot holes in the walking dead that a zombie filled bus could drive through”.

Back to the topic at hand, however, we must agree that shows of this caliber are taking over as the new type of cinema. Statistics show a massive increase in popularity for TV dramas and sitcoms of all sorts, opposed to a slight decline in the overall popularity full featured films. It is quite easy to explain and obvious, though – why sit down for two or three hours when you can get the same experience in bite sized-chunks anywhere from just over twenty minutes to an hour. People today don’t have the “blockbuster production” type of time on their hands these days. Anyone who is interested in the cinema would find sitting down for half an hour or an hour at most a lot more compatible with their schedule. What is more, TV shows nowadays have a way better production behind them than the average show ten years ago. Back then, while the biggest dramas or sitcoms had the production value of a small movie per episode, the average was way below that line. On the other hand, nowadays series have a high demand and are enjoying a peak in popularity, which in turn allows them the allocation of a way higher budget which in many cases raises the quality.

Choosing may be a tough thing to do, though. Even so, the fans of American Horror Story have never been disappointed with the show in general. Having a unique, very eerie, yet exciting and leaving you wanting more atmosphere, this horror series doesn’t rely strictly on shock value. Instead, it tells a number of very intricate, intertwining stories which, like every complex plot, can become prone to plot holes and general mistakes.

Let’s take a look at the ten most discussed.

10. Not Listening to Their Auditory

Like any show’s fans, American Horror Story’s auditory wants more of certain characters and less of others. While the development of the story is solely its creator’s choice and decision, listening to the vox populi (voice of the people) and giving what is asked for never hurt anybody.

9. Shallow Shock Value

While there are certain portrayals like disfigured people and molesting parents, the show goes as far as show them in a very simple and undeveloped way, which leaves viewers very curious. Expanding on the shock value of their shock value (if you get where this is going) would certainly be beneficial.

8. Using Controversial Themes

The show has made use of certain themes which can be considered at the far end of the controversial side such as segregation and actual nazism. While that could have played off very well for the show, they didn’t handle it quite well, turning the attempts at humor and adding depth to their story in unneeded acts of racism.

7. Not Giving Characters Their Due

Lots of characters die or exit the story in one way or another but most of them get killed off quite quickly without giving them the very glorious death they deserve. While having an epic buildup and climax to their stories, certain characters die a very uninteresting death which also doesn’t give their storyline the expected type of ending.

6. Cliffhangers

The show gives us a lot of cliffhangers but the bad thing is that many of them don’t resolve at all. People like a certain degree of predictability and they like that certain degree of predictability to prove wrong in some utterly mind-blowing plot twist which, however, does not happen often enough.

5. Leaving Stories Unfinished

Expanding the previous section, American Horror Story is a complex show which includes a lot of minor details which can be there just for the atmosphere or overall visual representation of the story but some of them turn out to be interesting stories of their own. However, some of them just get left behind.

4. Dividing But Not Conquering

The story in the first two seasons revolves around all the characters and ties them together in a special way but further up, the show’s plot branches out that many of the newly introduced people play no significant role in the master plan, which leaves more to be desired.

3. Trying to Cast Big Names

Having some more popular actors take roles in the show has proven risky for any modern production because the story takes a lesser priority spot than the financial agenda behind everything. Killing off a character and resurrecting them without reason or just killing them for nothing good makes the financial side of things shine through the plot.

2. Leaving Characters Behind

There are a lot of people who take parts in the overall representation of the story and its characters. From the minor, unimportant background extras to the close to main characters, sometimes there is a lot more to be desired from the development of certain roles in the show.

1. Overcomplicating

The number one reason in the 10 biggest mistakes in American Horror Story is trying to be way too intricate than needed at any time during the show.
