Yesterday we’ve seen a great movie called “Pixels” from Sony Pictures Entertainment, and started to think about how great amounts of money movie studios make.

The movie industry is heavy, and it can be compared to GDP of some countries at ease. Crazy thing to know, considering that movies are part of the entertainment. But when you think about it, entertainment is one of the most profitable niches to be in business right now.
Hollywood is the “filmmakers heaven”; there are not many people who are not familiar with some of the works from the hills with huge white letters, unique and known worldwide. In the recent list we made, the longest Hollywood films ever made, we listed some movies that are really works of art. And every movie from the list made huge amounts of money.
Nowadays, you might think that ultra-famous movie stars earn big money making movies. But when you think about it, their nets are a small fraction of the profit that huge studios make. The biggest studios in the world are multi-billion companies, which create franchises and huge projects, in which hundreds of people and hundreds of millions of dollars are involved. Today we are listing them for you, ranked by overall power and size.

10. Dreamworks
This is a filming studio company found by Steven Spielberg and his associates in 1994. Financing and producing a lot of movies, Dreamworks won many awards since the beginning of their work. Animated movies section is shining in the recent period, publishing great movies. Some of the most popular movies from Dreamworks are:

- Megamind

9. MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer)
The popular brand with the famous roaring lion is #9 on our list of the biggest film studios in the world. Recently MGM went down into the smaller company size, concentrating on distributing movies and TV shows. Still owning some of the biggest franchises in movie history, like James Bond movies, the MGM is a symbol of trusted, and well-established brand in the entertainment industry.

8. The Weinstein Company
The Dimension Films Company disappeared and went under ownership of the Weinstein Company; the filming studio company established in 2005 by Harvey and Bob Weinstein. The brothers left Miramax and started their own company, which got famous later for the fruitful collaboration with Quentin Tarantino. The recent most successful fruits of their labor are:

7. Lions Gate Entertainment
The biggest and most successful film studio company outside of Los Angeles. A diversified portfolio of owning the other studios, and successful movie franchises brought huge success to the former Lions Gate Entertainment, now renamed as Lionsgate.

6. Paramount Motion Pictures Group
This is a major film studio group that operates in the entertainment business with success. Many studios are incorporated in this group, and hundreds of successful movies are behind them. Combined together, assets of this company are worth around 6,2 billion dollars.

5. 21st Century Fox
Owned by the News Corp, and then owned by 21st Century Fox Corporation. The film studio division of the company produced numerous blockbusters, and a lot of TV series as well, with some of them emitting for more than 30 years. To name a few:

- Ice Age
- The Simpsons
4. Universal Pictures
This is one of Hollywood’s “Big 6” studios, found in 1912 by a group of movie production enthusiasts led by Carl Laemmle. This is the fourth oldest major film studio as well as fourth biggest on our list. Many of the releases from this studios achieved records, and broke records.

3. The Walt Disney Company
The successful screenings and shows in youth market provided the growth to the all possible aspects in the entertainment industry. The owning of Lucasfilm, Pixar Animation Studios, Touchstone Pictures and Marvel Studios tells you enough. The Walt Disney Company is among the biggest film studios in the world, they won’t be going anywhere from this list anytime soon.
2. Time Warner
The conglomerate that owns everything in the entertainment industry with “Warner” name on it. Alongside that, Time Warner owns much more: New Line Cinema, Turner Entertainment Co, and DC Entertainment. Let us refresh your memory with some of their ultra-successful recent work:

The Biggest Film Studio in The World, definitely, and a conglomerate that operates in all spheres of entertainment. Many great movie franchises are put together by SPE – Spider-Man, Men in Black, Underworld, and Resident Evil.
