2023 novel The Covenant of Water is ranked 10th on our best sellers list. Authored by Abraham Verghese, it is based on the story of an Indian family living in Kerala. More than 1.5 million copies of the book have been sold so far since its release in May,2023.
9. The Silent Patient
Estimated Copies Sold: 1.62 million
2019 psychological thriller novel, The Silent Patient, was published in 2019, and still remains one of the best selling books of 2023. It is among the top 15 fiction best sellers on The New York Times Company (NYSE:NYT) best sellers list, with more than 6.5 million copies sold to date. An estimated 1.62 million of these were sold in 2022.
8. Where the Crawdads Sing
Estimated Copies Sold: 1.89 million
Eighth on our list is Where the Crawdads Sing. According to Lithub, an estimated 1.89 million copies were sold in 2022.
7. It Starts with Us
Estimated Copies Sold: 1.9 million
2022 romance novel authored by Colleen Hoover, It Starts with Us, is seventh on our list of the best selling books of 2023. It is in the top ten books lists of both Amazon and The New York Times Company (NYSE:NYT). 1.9 million copies have been sold since the book was published.
6. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
Estimated Copies Sold: 2 million
Written by Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, is one of the best selling books of 2023 on the bestseller lists of both Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and The New York Times Company (NYSE:NYT). An animated short film is also being made on the book. More than 8 million copies have been sold so far since its publication in 2019. We have estimated a quarter of these were sold last year.
5. I’m Glad My Mom Died
Estimated Copies Sold: 2 million
Published in 2022, the book is a memoir written by the author, Jennette McCurdy, about the difficult relationship with her mother who died in 2013. I’m Glad My Mom Died is fifth in the New York Times’ best sellers’ nonfiction category. An estimated 2 million copies have been sold so far.
4. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
Estimated Copies Sold: 2.14 million
Next on the list is a self-help book you will probably find on bookshelves across the world. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck has been translated into more than 50 languages and has sold more than 15 million copies since its publication. More than 2 million of these were sold in 2022.
3. Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
Estimated Copies Sold: 2.5 million
Atomic Habits is the third best selling book of 2023, written by James Clear. It offers a framework for improving good habits, breaking bad ones, and motivating yourself to improve your quality of life. It is ranked as the number one book in the how-to category of New York Times, and second on Amazon’s best sellers list of 2023.
2. Spare
Estimated Copies Sold: 3.2 million
Released in January 2023, Spare is a 416 pages long memoir by the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, of the British Royal Family. It has sold 3.2 million copies so far.
1. Lessons in Chemistry
Estimated Copies Sold: 4 million
Lessons in Chemistry is the best selling book of 2023, having sold four million copies since its publication in 2022. It is authored by Bonnie Garmus. The book is focused on women’s struggle for empowerment in the 1950s and 1960s.
