If you are wondering about the best countries to migrate with family, stick to the end of our list to find out.
There is an old saying I heard many times that goes along the lines “fool lives where he is born and a wise person lives where it’s best for him”. Over the years I’ve found that to be very true. If you want to create a better life for yourself, you will pursue the opportunities to do so even if that means leaving the place you’ve spent most of your life in. Occasionally the best place for you is the place you are born and raised, but that doesn’t happen too often. When you move to another city, it isn’t such a big deal, but what if the opportunity lies across the border? Moving away from your native country into the unknown is always a big challenge. It becomes even bigger when it’s not just you that are going, but your family as well. In case you are located in Pakistan and looking for a potential destination to relocate, check out our list of the Easiest Countries to Immigrate to From Pakistan.
When making a decision about relocating you should always take into consideration the consequences of that decision for your kids. Younger kids aged up to 6 years won’t have many problems adapting to their new surroundings, but pre-teens and teens will. They probably already created their circle of friends; just got used to school they are in and most likely love it there. When you move, your kids will have to find new friends, learn a new language and start their life all over just like you. Luckily, we are there to help you, at least when it comes to picking a country. In order to create our list of the best countries to migrate with family, we used the Expat Insider survey report from 2016 compiled by InterNations. They’ve surveyed expats from 191 different countries and territories who shared their experiences about moving abroad. The report contains Family Life index that is calculated based on the availability and cost of childcare and education, quality of education and family well-being. The countries that had the highest Family Life index ended up on our list of best countries to migrate with family. Let’s check it out.
10. Germany
Germany has among the highest standards of living in the world, so you know your family will prosper here. The cost of childcare and education isn’t all that high, since Germany ranks 8th by that criterion, followed by 15th and 16th place in the quality of education and family well-being. When it comes to availability of childcare and education, Germany ranks 22nd.
9. Belgium
Unlike Germany, Belgium ranks in top 10 when it comes to availability and cost of childcare and education alongside the quality of education. Unfortunately, Belgium’s family index is spoiled by the 30th place when it comes to family well-being.
8. Taiwan
We bet you didn’t expect Taiwan on the list of best countries to migrate with family. Taiwan ranks high in all other rankings, even topping the Quality of Life list. The survey placed Taiwan on 14th and 15th spot in availability and cost of childcare and education, respectively, while the country managed to break into top 10 in the quality of education and family well-being rankings.
7. Australia
We know that you have heard the stories about the heat in Australia and all those dangerous animals, but this is the place where your family should feel very good. In family well-being ranking, Australia snatched the top spot while also ranking high in quality of life. The country also ranks high in the availability of childcare and education alongside the quality of education, but the overall family life index is spoiled by high cost you’ll have to endure for your child’s education and care.
6. Norway
If you’ve read any surveys or reports about the happiness in a certain country or any other similar topic, you’ve probably noticed that Norway is either first or pretty close. It sure sounds good to be a resident of Norway. The country ranks on the 4th place in the cost of childcare and education while also being in the top 10 of family well-being. The thing that doesn’t favor Norway is the low ranking in quality of education.
5. Sweden
Another Scandinavian entry on our list of the best countries to migrate with family. Just like Norway, Sweden has a low cost of childcare and education (2nd place) and respectable ranking in the availability of childcare and education alongside family well-being but fails in the quality of education.
4. Austria
Ranked on the second place in quality of life, expats also placed Austria on the first place in health & well-being. The country also excels in terms of availability and cost of childcare and education while not having a good rank when it comes to family well-being ranking.
3. Israel
The country is ranked on the 5th place in both of availability of childcare and education and family well-being while also being ranked 6th in the subcategory of the quality of education. The only issue is that the quality and availability won’t come cheap.
2. Czech Republic
When it comes to availability and cost of childcare and education alongside the family well-being, have no worries. The Czech Republic has you covered there. The only subcategory that doesn’t favor the country is the quality of education.
1. Finland
As the final entry on our list of the best countries to migrate with family, Finland really offers it all. Multiple reports and surveys have ranked the country at the top in terms of stability and freedoms. People who participated in the Expat Insider survey placed Finland on the first spot when it comes to availability and cost of childcare and education as well as the quality of education. If you though there is a catch, you are wrong. Even in the subcategory of family well-being, Finland landed a high-ranking, being on the 4th spot. If Finland was among your relocation options, don’t think twice and start packing.
